10、t also with certain soft skills as well. These soft skills are transferable from one work environment to another and are often what make an employee an asset to an organization. 11、ing abilities or an analytical mind the ability to work on a team dependability a capacity for leadership strong work ethic interpersonal skills and friendliness the ability to handle stressful situations flexibility and adaptability organizational or time-management abilities LengthAs a graduate st

12、udent, your resume should be one page in length. There are exceptions, however, if you are applying for a research position and include your publications. In those cases the resume should not be longer than two pages. Be sure to place the bulk of your achievements on the first page, to more quickly

13、capture employer interest. Use high-quality resume paper in white or off-white.RelevanceEach item in the resume should highlight some ability. For example, if you are applying for a consulting position, you may want to highlight the skills that consulting firms often seek: analytical skills, researc

14、h ability, strong communication skills, leadership experience, etc. Balance and VarietyAlthough most graduate students do not have time to participate in a great number of volunteer or community service activities, those that you have done (or did as an undergraduate) consider for listing in your re

15、sume. Recruiters and selection committees expect some diversity of academic, extracurricular, and work experiences on your resume. Including more than your academic experience should be a goal.Visual AppealYour resume should have adequate margins (no smaller than .75) and use formatting strategies t

16、hat highlight rather than clutter. Use bold type, italics, and capitalization in a consistent manner. Do not use highly unusual fonts or fonts that are too small to be easily read (10-12 point is acceptable). All text should be the same font size with perhaps the exception of your name which can be

For example, if you are applying for an editorial or writing position and have publications, they might be included. If you are applying for a scientific research position in ind

Again, include presentations if they enhance your qualifications for the position.SkillsThis section can include

You may receive notices from various firms on and off the Internet encouraging you to send them your resume. The resum

44、es you send will differ from the traditional resumes you have been using. Because computers scan your resume in as an image, not as text, there are some guidelines you should follow: Use white or light-colored 8 1/2 by 11-inch paper. Be sure to print only on one side. Left-justify the entire documen

45、t. Use a laser or high-quality Inkjet printer. Do not fold or staple the document. Choose a standard 10 - 14 point font type. Use ample white space to separate sections of your resume. Keep name, address, and phone numbers on separate lines to avoid them becoming merged and unreadable. If you are a

46、more experienced candidate who requires two pages, be sure that your name is at the top of the second page to ensure that both pages are viewed as one document. Dont use italics, underlining boxes, shading, graphics, hollow bullets or other design features as computers are unable to read them. Avoid

47、 parentheses, brackets, horizontal or vertical lines - they will not scan properly. You may use ALL CAPS or a boldface type to indicate section headings. If you are sending your resume electronically, send it in ASCII or text with line breaks format instead of regular/formatted text. More and more e

48、mployers are accepting Word attachments. There are many things to consider when sending a web resume; visit The Riley Guide to Internet Resumes for some additional suggestions. Send a cover letter if you are responding to an ad and send a hard-copy of all the documents by mail. Use key words, which is another way
