1、 -外研版高中英语课文文本 必修一Module 1My Name is Li Kang. I live inShijiazhuang, a city not farfrom Beijing. It is the capital cityof Hebei Province. Todayis my first day at Senior Highschool and Im writing downmy thoughts about it. My new school is very good and Ican see why. The teachers arevery enthusiastic a

2、ndfriendly and the classrooms areamazing. Every room hasa computer with a special screen,almost as big as acinema screen. The teachers writeon the computer, andtheir words appear on the screenbehind them. Thescreens also show photographs,text and information fromwebsites. Theyre brilliant! TheEnglis

3、h class is really interesting. The teacher is a veryenthusiastic womancalled Ms Shen. Were using anew textbook and MsShens method of teaching isnothing like that of theteachers at my Junior High school.She thinks thatreading comprehension isimportant, but we speak a lot inclass, too. And we have fun

4、. Idont think I will be bored inMs Shens class! Today weintroduced ourselves to eachother. We did this in groups. Some students wereembarrassed at first but everyonewas very friendly and itwas really nice. Ms Shen gave usinstructions and thenwe worked by ourselves. Ms Shenwants to help usimprove our

5、 spelling andhandwriting. We do this in a funway, with spelling games andother activities. I like herattitude very much, and thebehaviour of the otherstudents shows that they like her,too. There are sixty-five students in my classmore thanmy previous class inJunior High. Forty-nine of themare girls.

6、 In other words,there are three times as many girls-as boys. They say that girls areusually more hard-working thanboys, but in this class, everyone ishard-working. For our homeworktonight, we have to writea description of the street wherewe live. Im looking forward to doing it!Module 2They say that

7、first impressions arevery important. Myfirst impression of Mrs. Li wasthat she was nervous andshy. I think perhaps she was, as itwas her first lessonwith us. But now, after two weeks,the class really likesworking with her. Shes kind andpatient, and sheexplains English grammar so clearly that even I

8、canShe avoids making you feel stupid!Ive understand it!always hatedmaking mistakes or pronouncing awordincorrectly when I speak English,but Mrs. Li just smiles,so that you dont feel completelystupid! I think maybeshe goes a bit too slowly for thefaster students, but forme its wonderful! I feel Im go

9、ingto make progress withher. Id guess that Mrs. Chen is almostsixty. Shes verywe dont dare to say a word unlessshe asks us to. strictShes alsovery serious and doesnt smilemuch. Whenshe asks you to do something, youdo it immediately!There are a few students in ourclass who keep comingto class late bu

10、t theyre always ontime for Mrs. Chenslessons! Some of our class dontlike her, but most of us really appreciate her because herteaching is so wellorganised and clear. And a fewstudents even admitliking her! During scientificexperiments, she explainsexactly what is happening and asa result my work isi

11、mproving. Physics will never bemy favourite lesson,-but I think that Ill do well in theexam with Mrs. Chen teaching me.Mr. Wus only been teaching usfor two weeks and hesalready very popular. I think thisis because he reallyenjoys teaching Chinese literaturehe loves it, in fact!Hes got so much energy

12、; this isone class you do not fallasleep in! Hes about 28, I think,and is rather good-looking. Hetalks loudly and fast, and waveshis handsabout a lot when he gets excited. Hes really amusing andtells jokes when he thinks weregetting bored. Eventhings like compositions andsummaries are fun with Mr.Wu

13、. I respect him a lot.Module 3My name is Alice Thompson. Icome from Sydney,Australia and Im 18 years old.Recently I had my firstride on a long-distance train. Andwhat a ride! A friend and I travelled on the famousGhan train. We got on inSydney and we got off in AliceSprings, right in themiddle of Au

14、stralia, more thanfour thousand kilometresaway. We spent two days andnights on the train.The train was wonderful and thefood was great. We ategreat meals cooked by experts!For the first few hundredkilometres of the journey, the scenery was very colourful.There were fields and the soil wasdark red. A

15、fter that, itwas desert. The sun shone, therewas no wind and therewere no clouds in the sky.Suddenly, it looked like a placefrom another time. One night, at aboutmidnight, I watched the nightsky for about an hour. The starsshone like diamonds.Why is the train called the Ghan? A long time ago,Australians need

17、ed a way to travelto the middle of thecountry. They tried riding horses,but the horses didntlike the hot weather and sand. Ahundred and fifty yearsago, they brought some camelsfrom Afghanistan.Ghan is short for Afghanistan.Camels were much better thanhorses for travelling along distance. For many ye

18、ars, trained camelscarried food and other supplies,and returned withwool and other products.The Afghans and their camels didthis until the 1920s.Then the government built a newrailway line, so theydidnt need the camels any more.In 1925, they passed alaw which allowed people toshoot the animals if th

Itconsists of millions of pages ofdata.In 1969, DARPA, a U.S. defence organisation, developeda way for all their computers toalk to each otherthrough the telepho

27、ne. Theycreated a network ofcomputers called DARPANET.For fifteen years, only theU.S. army could use this systemof communication. Thenin 1984, the U.S. National ScienceFoundation (NSF)started the NSFNET network. Itthen became possible foruniversities to use the system aswell. NSFNET became known as

28、the Inter-Network, orInternet.The World Wide Web (the web) isa computernetwork that allows computerusers to accessinformation from millions ofwebsites via the Internet.At the moment, about 80 percentof web traffic is inEnglish, but this percentage isgoing down. By 2020,much web traffic could be in C

29、hinese.The World Wide Web wasinvented in 1991 by anEnglish scientist, TimBerners-Lee. Berners-Lee builthis first computer while he was atuniversity using anold television! He came up withthe idea of the WorldWide Web in 1989 while he wasworking in Switzerland.Berners-Lee made it possible for everyon

30、e to use theInternet, not just universities andthe army. He designedthe first web browser, whichallowed computer users toaccess documents from othercomputers. From thatmoment on, the web and theInternet grew. Within fiveyears, the number of Internetusers rose from 600 000 to-40 million. The Internet
