It becomes rapids as it passes through deep valleys, traveling across western Yunnan Province.Sometimes the river becomes a water fall and enters wide valleys. We were both surprised to learn that half of the river is in China. After i

30、t leaves China and high altitude, the Mekong becomes wide, brown and warm. As it enters Southeast Asia, its pace slows. Then, later that afternoon, another big quake which was almost as strong as the first one shook Tangshan. Some o

43、f th e rescue workers and doctors were trapped under the ruins. More buildings fell down. Water, fo od, and electricity were hard to get. People began to wonder how long the disaster would last. A ll hope was not lost. Soon after the quakes, the army sent 150,000 soldiers of thousands of peo ple wer

44、e helped. The army organized teams to dig out those who were trapped and to bury the dead. To the north of the city, most of the 10,000 miners were rescued from the coal mines there. Workers built shelters for survivors whose homes had been destroyed. Fresh water was taken to the city by train, truc
