16、ch no matter how late I stay up preparing. v7.vSweaty-palm, vbecause Im always nervous before I enter the vclassroom, sure that I will be found vout for the fool that I am. v8. vSinking-stomach, vbecause I leave the classroom an hour later convinced that I was even more boring than usual. v9.vNor do

17、 I teach because I think I know answers, vor because I have knowledge I feel compelled to share. v11. Sometimes I am amazed that my students actually take notes on what I say in class! v12. 20、 with an occasional nudge vfrom me.v20. vBut I was there when she finished her dissertation, vlearned that her articles were accepted, got a job vand won a fellowship to Harvard working on a book developing ideas shed first had as my student. v21.vAnother reason is George, who started as an venginee

21、ring student, then switched to English vbecause he decided he liked people better than vthings. v22.vThere is Jeanne, who left college, but was brought vback by her classmates because they wanted her to vsee the end of the self-reliance house project. v23. vI was there when she told me that she late

22、r became vinterested in the urban poor and went on to become a civil rights lawyer. v24.vThere is Jacqui, a cleaning woman who knows vmore by intuition than most of us learn by analysis. v25.vThese are the real reasons I teach, these people vwho grow and change in front of me. v26.vBeing a teacher i
