If visitors have solutions to the riddles, they can pull the paper out and go to the lantern owners to check their answer. If they are
6、right, they will get a little gift. The activity emerged during peoples enjoyment of lanterns in the Song Dynasty (960-1279). As riddle guessing is interesting and full of wisdom, it has become popular among all social strata. There are many legends about the evolution of the festival, the most popu
7、lar of which is in commemoration k,memrein of Qu Yuan (340-278 BC). After his death, the people of Chu crowded to the bank of the Miluo river to pay their respects to him. One billowy river appeared in front of the Cowhand. wThe Cowhand and Weaver Maid were separated on the two banks
12、 forever and could only feel their tears. wTheir loyalty to love touched magpies, so tens of thousands of magpies came to build a bridge for the Cowhand and Weaver Maid to meet each other. The Queen Mother was eventually moved and allowed them to meet each year on the 7th of the 7th lunar month. Hen
13、ce their meeting date has been called Qi Xi (Double Seventh).wZhong Qiu Jie probably began as a harvest festival. The festival was later given a mythological flavour with legends of Chang-E, the beautiful lady in the moon. According to Chinesew mythology, the earth wonce had 10 suns circling wover i
14、t. One day, all 10 suns appeared together, scorching the earth with their heat. The earth was saved when a strong archer, Hou Yi, succeeded in shooting down 9 of the suns. Yi stole the elixir of life to save the people from his tyrannical rule, but his wife, Chang-E drank it. From then on chang-e li
15、ved in the moon forever.wThe story goes about Zhu Yuan Zhang .wDuring the Yuan Dynasty China was ruled by the Mongolian people. The leaders of the rebellion, knowing that the Moon Festival was drawing near, ordered the making of special cakes. wPacked into each mooncake was a message with the outlin
16、e of the attack. On the night of the Moon Festival, the rebels successfully attacked and overthrew the government. What followed was the establishment of the Ming Dynasty .wToday, moon cakes are eaten to commemorate this event.wMid-Autumn Day is a traditional festival in China. Almost everyone likes
17、 to eat mooncakes on that day. Most families have a dinner together to celebrate the festival. Many people who live far away from homes want to go back to have a family reunion. 19、elebration as well.w Before the Spring Festival,people clean their houses,put red couplets on their gates,and set off firecrackers,according to fairy tale,for driving a demon ,named Nian ,away.w On the eve of the Spring Festival,a get- together banquet is a must, and the most popular food is Dumpling,which is supposed to bring good fortune. On the first day of the new year, everybody wears new clothes and greets relatives and friends with bows and congratulations wishing each other the best during the new year.
