2、r. The suite consists of over forty modules, or skins, which are loaded onto your Windows desktop through Rainmeter. These skins range from simple data tickers showing the time, date, weather reports, web feeds, and system information such as your memory usage, battery charge or WiFi signal to inter

3、active tools that control your media player, launch applications, or record important notes. Most skins are offered in a few different variants to suit your personal style. You can move a skin anywhere on your desktop just by clicking and dragging. You can change its transparency, make it stay on to

4、p of your other windows, or blend into the background until it is needed. You can even save any arrangement of Rainmeter skins as a theme and reload it at any time. What makes Rainmeter unique, however, is its adaptability. There is no part of a skin that cannot be changed, relocated, or removed; an

5、yone can edit each skins source code using Rainmeters intuitive language. For the average user, Enigma includes a unique configuration tool to apply your basic settings such as your local weather code, Google and Twitter account details across all of your skins. A wide range of additional skins, plu

7、. Features The suite includes these three kinds of materials: Skins. The heart of Enigma. Developed, revised and expanded over more than a year, these skins meet Rainmeters highest standards of efficiency, functionality and design. Themes. Four complimentary pre-arranged Themes for Enigma. You can u

8、se the skins without the themes, of course. Special Features. The following bonus materials are available with the Enigma source package on deviantArt. Samurize Config. Enigma was first created as a simple config for Serious Samurize, an application similar to Rainmeter. These minimalistic original

9、files are still available. Arcs. A popular companion skin for Enigma, in both Rainmeter and Samurize flavors. Visage. Users of Enigma frequently like to use transparency in their desktop designs. This tiny tray utility lets you adjust the transparency of any window, or the Windows taskbar. Launchy S

10、kin. A much-requested accessory, this tiny skin will make Launchy fit the Enigma style. CD Art Display Styles. In the old days, because Rainmeter could not display song information from iTunes by itself, Enigma used to include these styles for the popular C.A.D. skin, Pure Adium. Wallpaper. A compli

11、mentary wallpaper, Nexus. Installing The latest release of Rainmeter version 1.1 comes with Enigma built in. In other words, if you have Rainmeter 1.1, the skins and themes are already installed for you. The installer is only included with the source package from deviantArt; you can use it to overwr

12、ite your skins with a fresh copy. Automatic 1. Run SetupEnigma.exe. The installer will let you choose your Skins and Themes directories, if youve changed them from the default locations. It will also give you the choice of backing up your existing Enigma files and applying the default Enigma theme.

13、If you cant use the automatic installer for some reason: Manual 1. Copy the contents of Skins to your Skins folder. The default location is My DocumentsRainmeterSkins. 2. Copy the contents of Themes to your Themes folder. The default location is Application DataRainmeterThemes. 3. Run RainThemes. If

14、 you would like to backup your current Rainmeter setup, enter a name for it and click Save. 4. Select Enigma and click Load. How to Use This guide will help you start using Enigma, even if youve never used Rainmeter before. That said, if youre not already familiar with how Rainmeter works, you may s

15、ave yourself a lot of confusion by reading the programs official tutorial, Rainmeter 101. Home The first time you run Enigma whether youve just downloaded Rainmeter for the first time, or you installed the source files from deviantArt separately the Home skin will appear in the center of your deskto

16、p. This skin is your portal to all of Enigmas services. Mouseover the icons on the bottom to switch tabs, then click the blue link to go directly to the service. Instructions Opens this guide. Skins Opens RainBrowser, the built-in skin manager app. Themes Opens RainThemes, a theme manager addon. Con

17、figuration Opens RainConfigure, a special addon for changing personal settings in Enigma. Support Opens the official support thread for Enigma on the Rainmeter forums. License Opens a complete description of Enigmas Creative Commons licence. If you close the Home skin, there are two ways to get it b

18、ack. First, you can right-click any skin, or the Rainmeter tray icon, to open the context menu. (As you will learn in the pages below, the context menu serves as a shortcut to most of Rainmeters features and options.) To reopen Home from the menu, navigate to Configs Enigma Enigma.ini. The second wa

19、y is to double-click on either the Sidebar or Taskbar skins. Skins The skins are really the whole point of Rainmeter. In this suite, they are organized logically into two sets. Sidebar skins are designed to fit on the Sidebar. Taskbar skins are designed to fit on the Taskbar. Of course, you are in n

20、o way restricted to this concept you can move the skins wherever you want. There are two ways to load skins. The first is RainBrowser, Rainmeters built-in skin manager, which provides you with one-click access to a variety of tools to manage your entire library of skins. You can load RainBrowser fro

21、m its tab in the Home skin, or by navigating the context menu to Configs Manage Skins. Once youve found the skin you want to load in the tree, just select the .INI file in the bottom-left pane and click Load Skin. When you click on a skin, youll also notice that RainBrowser displays a variety of dat

22、a about the skin, including its name, author, description, and detailed setup instructions, if any are needed. For most skins, this will just involve configuring your personal settings, which will be explained below. You can also load skins the old-fashioned way, through the context menu. Right-clic

23、k any skin, or the Rainmeter tray icon, to bring it up. Navigate to Configs Enigma. From there, explore the Sidebar or Taskbar submenus until you find a skin youd like to try. (There are no skins in the Resources folder it contains images and a few other files that Enigmas skins need to run properly

24、.) To change any skins individual settings, find its Skin Menu in the context menu. For example, if you want to make sure that your Sidebar and Taskbar always appear beneath the skins you place on top of them, set their Position to Bottom or On Desktop. When you load a skin for the first time, it wi

25、ll appear in the upper-left corner of your screen. You can click and drag to reposition it anywhere on the screen. To remove it, right-click and select Skin MenuClose Skin. Theres no risk to closing a skin - Rainmeter will remember where and how you left it, and will put it back when you load it aga

26、in. Nearly every skin has a number of variants. In either RainBrowser or the context menu, you can see that these are just alternative .INI files in the same folder as the main variant. Instead of loading these separately, Rainmeter is smart enough to automatically close the old variant and open the

27、 new one, with the same position and settings. Many skins have the same kinds of variants; others are unique. Mini. These extra-compact Taskbar skins are small enough to fit over your actual Windows taskbar. Icon. If you prefer not to have too much text on your screen, these variants have more of a

28、graphical focus. You can cycle any Enigma skins variants by middle-clicking the skin. Tips: If your Windows taskbar is on the top, you might have to move it temporarily, if its covering up the skin. You can also use Visage to temporarily hide the taskbar by pressing Windows Key + Pause. If a skin re

29、fuses to get closer to the bottom edge of the screen, disable Snap to Edges. If it still gives you trouble particularly on dual-monitor setups disable Keep on Screen. Download Desktop Coral to reserve area on the edge of the screen for Sidebar or Taskbar, to prevent maximized windows from overlappin

30、g them just like the real Windows taskbar. Themes Rainmeter comes with RainThemes, an addon utility by Jeff Morley, for saving and loading different arrangements of skins on your desktop. When you create a Theme from your current setup, all of the skins you are currently running, along with their po

31、sitions, transparency settings and everything else, will be saved. You even have the option of saving the wallpaper. When you load a theme, Rainmeter will auto-save your previous theme as a safeguard. Be careful, however the next time you load a theme, the previous auto-save will be overwritten. The

32、re are two ways to access your Themes. First, as always, from the Home screen. Second, directly from the Rainmeter context menu. Enigma comes with four prearranged themes: Enigma This is the default theme, featuring a fairly simple Taskbar and Sidebar setup. Based on the classic Enigma config for Sa

33、murize, Its designed to get you started with your own setup, while being useful and attractive right out of the box. Enigma Preview Im just gonna say it: I think youd be crazy to run this theme on your computer for more than five minutes a stretch. Regardless, here by popular demand is the setup use

34、d to preview the full range of Enigmas capabilities. Lightning Sunset This sparse setup is an exact replica of the famous Lightning Sunset desktop, as featured on Lifehacker, that first brought Enigma to the public eye. Wing Firefox This moderate Taskbar-based theme is also derived from a famous set

35、up. If you have installed Enigmas companion, Arcs, this theme will automatically load and preposition that skin as well. Configuration One of Enigmas unique features (for a Rainmeter skin) is its dedicated configuration tool another handy AutoIt-based utility kindly written for us by Jeff Morley. Th

36、ere are three different ways you can launch the configuration tool. First, from its tab on the Home skin. Second, by middle-clicking the Sidebar or Taskbar skins. And third, by loading the Configuration link in the context menu, under Configs Enigma Resources Configuration.ini. The tool makes change

37、s to a file called Variables.inc, which is loaded by all Enigma skins. Instead of, for example, wading through the source code of the Gmail skin and all four of its variants, you can set your Google login details for all of them with one click. Simply type in the new information, and click Set. Then

38、, once youre satisfied with all of your changes, click Save All. Most of the variables are self-explanatory, and provide a short description when clicked. A few, however, deserve some more explanation: WeatherCode. After much trial and error, Rainmeter has settled on Yahoo! Weather as the source for

39、 weather updates and other information used by numerous Enigma skins. Visit Yahoo! to find your local weather code. (If you live in the United States, you may simply use your ZIP code.) The same style of code is used for the World skins, designed to track the time and conditions elsewhere in the wor

40、ld; you can set these in World1WeatherCode, etc. Unit. You can now switch easily between displaying Yahoo! Weather data in Fahrenheit or Celsius. Set c for metric, f for Imperial. SidebarSpacing. The Sidebar skins automatically extend to the full height of your available desktop area, but they can r

41、eserve a certain number of pixels according to your preference. The default space is 33 enough for the Taskbar skin. Color. You can customize most of the common text colors across all of Enigmas skins. The format is a traditional Red, Green, Blue, Alpha pattern for example, 255, 0, 255, 128 would gi

42、ve you a purple color (full red and blue, no green) that is 50% transparent. In addition, ColorIcon allows you to switch between white (W) and black (B) graphics. Code You are by no means limited to these choices, however. Every inch of a Rainmeter skin is customizable, as long as youre willing to p

43、ut in the effort to learn Rainmeters unique coding language. You can view any skins source code in your text editor of choice by clicking Skin Menu Edit Skin. For most people, the best way to learn Rainmeters code is hands-on. Dont be afraid to tweak, deconstruct, and experiment on an existing skin

44、to make it your own. See below for a list of helpful links. If you want to create new skins that still match the rest of your Enigma gallery, go to your SkinsEnigmaTaskbarCombos folder. There, youll find a template with the standard format of an Enigma skin, along with a variety of examples. Support

45、 The best way to get help with Enigma is to post in the official support thread on R, where others with the same queries can read and reply in public. The first post is continuously updated with the most common questions and issues. The Home skin, once again, has a link that will take you directly t

46、o the support thread. You can also access it from the context menu, by Configs Enigma Resources Support.ini. Before posting, please make some attempt to search the support thread, this Instruction manual, and the general Rainmeter Help forum for your question. It is extremely likely that someone els

47、e has had the same issue. Once you are sure that the solution isnt already available, youre welcome to add a new issue. Use these guidelines to make sure that your question is thoughtful, detailed and substantive. If you are having technical difficulties, please provide as much relevant detail as po
