7、esis. i 万方数据 Domestication or Foreignization: A Case Study on the Strategies in Translation of Mobile News Abstract Nowadays mobile news has a big influence on peoples daily lives as an effective communication method. As other types of translation texts, mobile news translation also needs to abide b

8、y certain translation standards and principles, which usually leaves translators in a dilemma to make a choice between domestication and foreignization during the translation process. This thesis tries to analyze classical and typical translation examples and attempts to conduct a study on the mobil

9、e news translation within the theoretical framework of domestication and foreignization. Based on the previous studies, in the second chapter a definition on mobile news is given at first, followed by the description of its several main features; the theoretical framework is listed to state the defi

10、nition of domestication and foreignization and the existent disputes on both of them at home and abroad are discussed in the third chapter; the application of domestication and foreignization in mobile news is explored mainly from the concrete translation examples on both linguistic aspect and the c

11、ultural one in the fourth chapter; the following chapter compares and summarizes different translation strategies adopted in mobile news translation and shows that during the E-C translation, domestication is often used while most of the time the foreignization is applied during C-E translation so a

12、s to meet the requirement of target readers and realize the goal of spreading the Chinese Culture; Finally, the advantages and disadvantages of the domestication and foreignization and their effects on the Chinese culture spreading and development are illustrated. 14、料作为研究对象，在归化与异化的翻译策 略理论指导下对涉及相关策略的文本进行研究 。 本文在回顾前人研究的基础上， 首先在第二章对手机报新闻进行界定，然后描述手机报新闻的一些主要特征； 第三章作为理论框架陈述归化和异化 的定义以及国内外对归化和异化存在的争 议；第四章主要从语言层面，包括措词和句法以及文化层面，包括文化负载词 和俚语对具体译例进行分析，探讨这两种翻译策略在手机报新闻翻译中的适用 性；第五章对手机报新闻翻译英译汉和汉译英中采取的不同翻译策略进行对比 总结，阐明在英译汉中多采用归化策略，而在汉译英中多采用异化策略，以达 到适应目标读者的需求以及传播中国文化的目的；最后阐述归化与异化翻

22、le News Chapter 1 Introduction 1.1 Objectives of the Study This thesis uses the translation theories of domestication and foreignization to guide the mobile news translation research in the expectation of a better illustration of choices on translation strategy for the translators during the process

23、 of translation.The objectives of this study mainly include the following points:1) to illustrate the features of mobile news ; 2) to display the distinctions of the applications of domestication and foreignization to mobile news translation on linguistic and cultural aspects; 3) to present the meri

24、ts and demerits of domestication and foreignization on mobile news translation; 4) to provide some suggestions on mobile news translation for translators on the selection of translation strategy. After the discussion of the mobile news translation from two aspects (the linguistic and cultural aspect

25、), more examples are listed to illustrate the application of the translation strategy followed by the explanation of their merits and demerits. Through the study, the author tries to provide some suggestions on the mobile news translation practices so that it could be conducive to further exploratio

26、n on this subject. 1.2 Significance of the Study With the increasingly deepening globalization, the distance between people living in different areas has been shortened gradually and the role of translation as an important communication bridge has become more and more highlighted. Cultures of differ

27、ent countries can be learned mutually through the tool of translation. There exists a close-linked relationship between language and culture. Mobile news has a big influence on peoples daily lives as an effective communication method in this ever-changing world where international exchange is gettin

28、g more and more important. 29、mma to make a choice between the strategies of domestication and foreignization during the translation process. In the previous studies on news translation some noticeable results have been gained by not a few scholars yet in contrast the research on mobile news translation seems like a drop in the

30、ocean. As Chinese economy and comprehensive national strength get stronger and the globalization process deepens incessantly, at the right moment has emerged the historic mission for China to develop the culture with Chinese characteristics. Mobile news is of great significance to convey information

31、 and spread the culture as a new, effective and convenient media means. This thesis tries to make an analysis of the classical and typical translation examples within the framework of domestication and foreignization so as to not only provide some effective translation strategies to propel the devel

32、opment of news translation but at the same time have a great practical significance in driving the spreading of Chinese civilization and the development of Chinese culture as well. 1.3 Organization of the Thesis This thesis attempts to conduct a systematic study on the translation texts from the cla

33、ssical and fresh materials mainly represented by the mobile news involved with the related translation strategies within the theoretical framework of domestication and foreignization. Based on the previous studies, in the second chapter a definition on mobile news is given at first, followed by the

34、description of its several main features; the third chapter lists the theoretical framework to state the definition of domestication and foreignization and the existent disputes on them both at home and abroad; the application of the strategies of domestication and foreignization to mobile news tran

35、slation is explored in the fourth chapter mainly from the concrete translation examples both on the linguistic aspect including diction and syntax and on the cultural aspect including culture-bound words and idioms; a comparison and summarization of different translation strategies adopted in E-C an

38、y is done by virtue of the qualitative method. The strong theoretical foundation cant be ensured without a general knowledge of the views of the scholars both at home and abroad on the theory of domestication and foreignization. In addition, the job of collecting and reading the works of various tra
